Hyunjun was casted by Cre.Ker Entertainment in front of his school in Busan to become a trainee. He majored in Modern Dance and is the second idol ever to top his class.

From the beginning of his activities with The Boyz, Hyunjun has suffered from a severe condition in his ankle also known as 'Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction'. The injury caused him to go on 2 hiatuses during his career with The Boyz and even to undergo surgery in 2018 right before 'Giddy Up' promotions.The first hiatus was announced on March 28th 2018 by his company stating that Hyunjun will temporarily halt activities as he was told that he would need three months of recovery after his surgery.
On August 21st, 2018, it was announced that Hyunjun will be returning to the group on September 5th, 2018 with the release of their first single album “The Sphere.”Hyunjun's father passed away on February 4, 2019 resulting him to pause his activities to return back home in Busan.On July 20th 2019, Cre.Ker Entertainment released a statement regarding Hyunjun's health state and announced that he will be going on hiatus for the second time due to his injury which continued for 3 months until his departure from the group, which was announced on October 23, 2019. Stating that his health condition got remarkably worse as he was being affected by his condition both physically and mentally, leading him to stop promoting and leaving the group.
